With the national push for increased educational accountability, teachers must expand their repertoire of academic interventions for struggling students in the early primary grades. This workshop provides a bank of ideas that teachers can use to address English Language Arts and math skills for students in grades K through 2. It is designed for general-education classroom teachers, special educators, and reading and math specialists.
The training gives direction in creating effective, targeted interventions for primary-grade children--and provides answers to these 5 challenging teacher questions:
- How can I pinpoint student deficits in early-reading, early-math, and emerging-writing skills?
- What research-based academic interventions are available that support the Common Core State Standards and are effective in closing reading, math, and writing skill-gaps?
- How can I efficiently document classroom intervention plans in a way that will increase my chances for success?
- What are feasible methods of classroom data collection that I can use to track student progress on interventions?
- What are simple but effective ways to manage the behaviors of individuals and groups of primary-grade children to create a classroom that promotes optimal learning?
As an additional benefit, participants can access a webpage created specifically for the workshop to download all training materials and to access links to additional free Internet resources.
