Morning Keynote 9:00-10:30 am:
MTSS and the CSE: Evaluating the Integrity of Student Academic Intervention Plans

Schools with a strong MTSS (multi-tiered system of supports) process that targets struggling students can prevent inappropriate referrals to the Committee on Special Education. This keynote provides an overview of the three Tiers of MTSS for academics and shares quality indicators for each. Participants receive a streamlined checklist they can use as CSE Chairs to evaluate the adequacy of specific student MTSS intervention plans.

Tier 1: Academic Interventions in the Classroom

This workshop explores the general-education teacher’s role as ‘Tier 1 first responder’—to analyze student academic deficits and to create (and document) classroom intervention plans that address those problems. The training shares examples of research-based academic strategies that schools can add to their intervention libraries for instructional staff.

Afternoon Workshop: 2:00-3:00 pm

Tier 1: Behavioral Interventions in the Classroom

This workshop provides simple tools that teachers can use at the Tier 1/classroom level to better understand student behavior problems and to select effective strategies to fix those challenging behaviors. Participants also receive a sampler of behavior interventions suitable for classroom use.
