DBR involves rating of behavior following a specified observation period, and then sharing of that information to inform decisions.

February 20th, 2012The teacher analyzes a particular student's pattern of errors commonly made when solving a math algorithm (on either computation or word problems) and develops a brief error self-correction checklist unique to that student. The student then uses this checklist to self-monitor—and when necessary correct—his or her performance on math worksheets before turning them in.
-
February 20th, 2012The student plays a number-based board game to build skills related to 'number sense', including number identification, counting, estimation skills, and ability to visualize and access specific number values using an internal number-line.
-
February 20th, 2012The student monitors and records her or his work production on math computation worksheets during time drills—with a goal of improving overall fluency. This intervention can be used with a single student, a small group, or an entire class.
-
February 20th, 2012The student is taught explicit number counting strategies for basic addition and subtraction. Those skills are then practiced with a tutor.
-
February 20th, 2012This spelling intervention has both a reading and spelling component, with the student practicing words from word families that have similar pronunciation and shared spelling patterns (rimes).
-
February 20th, 2012In this intervention to promote acquisition of spelling words, the student is given a spelling sheet with the target words correctly spelled. The student looks at each correctly spelled word, covers the word briefly and copies it from memory, then compares the copied word to the original correct model.
-
February 16th, 2012This intervention actively engages the student to correct spelling errors. The student takes a brief spelling pre-test, follows a self-guided process to check and correct spelling errors using verbal cues, and then takes a spelling post-test (adapted from Gettinger, 1985).
-

Intervention Central provides teachers, schools and districts with free resources to help struggling learners and implement Response to Intervention.
Here are new resources available in November 2011 on Intervention Central:
- Behavior Report Card Maker. The Behavior Report Card Maker has been extensively revised. The new version of this free application allows educators and others to create customized student rating forms, called Behavior Report Cards. These report cards are an easy way to record a range of student behaviors, including general classroom conduct, hyperactivity, inattention, and academic-support behaviors. Users can also now save their report card settings online, download report cards in pdf format, and create these report card types: daily, daily by location, daily by time period, and weekly. Check it out!
- Increased IC Account Capacity. Visitors to Intervention Central who have created free personal accounts will notice that they can now save up to 20 unique 'documents' (ChartDog graphs and/or Behavior Report Cards) on their accounts. For guidelines on how to get started with an Intervention Central account, click here.
- Phrase-Cued Text Generator. This application, first rolled out last month on our site, is proving popular. So we are showcasing it once again.
This is an exciting year for Intervention Central, with lots more tools and intervention resources on the way. Visit often!
